Black and White Film
As you might have noticed if you follow my instagram or have seen the new photos uploaded to the gallery here, I finally got three rolls of Black and White Ilford HP5 developed that I shot over 2022 and 2023. Travels to Glen Shiel, Northumberland and Glen Coe were revealed along with numerous spots in the Borders. There’s something great about not seeing the pictures until sometime after, I think it’s because unexpected memories come flooding back from the previous months in a way that does happen with the digital workflow. I haven’t replenished the film stock yet but I think it’s important to mix it up and keep photography interesting and to learn to see the word in different ways.
I caught up with my oldest friend this week who also has an interest in photography. We both agreed that too many people take the same pictures, with the same slow shutter speeds at the same locations before processing to death and we were nothing trying to fight that in our own little ways. By mixing it up and taking pictures quickly I hope that I can capture the world as see it rather than in a way that I want it to be seen. Each to their own but hopefully that explains why my images aren’t the sort usually found in photography magazines.
